Looking at the singer's face, I'm reminded of something that my music teacher told me in high school, which is that people expect singers (especially soloists) to emote with their faces as well as their voices, but if you're the second trumpet nobody cares what your facial expression looks like. I don't know if it's different for bands as opposed to orchestras, though!
