The B-45 is kind of a sad story. It was the USAF's first jet bomber... but only because it was the 'safe' choice, and looked like it would be ready before Boeing's B-47. The Boeing design was more radical and uncertain, and it took about three years longer to enter service - but it was such a revolution that almost all current jetliners (and most large jet aircraft, in fact) can trace their design back to it. The poor B-45, meanwhile, proved to be a dead end.
And I swear it reminds me of a bulldog, somehow.
(Except for this view -

- which makes me think of a submarine. Or something out of Jules Verne. ^_- )
