A Day at the Whirligig

I spent a lot of time at RenFest this year trying to take pics that captured the setting/environment of the fair; it's about 2-3 times the size of the only other one I've been to (south of Nashville), so I wanted something that gave a sense of the scope. This is about the only one that was worth a darn. :( It was really hard for me to try and find an area where you could get a feel for the way the grounds were laid out; this one didn't do it either, but at least there's a sense of something bigger than a couple of booths. (Maybe I should try the fisheye lens when I go back.)

That sure looks fun!

I've only once been to a Renfaire and it was somewhere in Washington state; I couldn't tell you if it was big or small for Renfaires, but I was sure impressed by the jousting demonstration. :)

Well, you can see the jousting arena in this aerial view: https://goo.gl/maps/6LAhD4iwtDr :) The pin is the whirligig, the jousting area the tan bean-shaped ground to the left and a little bit south of it. At the very upper-left is one of the major KC-area concert venues, the Amphitheater Formerly Known as Sandstone.

Google Maps is scary. :p

It certainly isn't showing the area at its prettiest! :( Bing Maps and Apple Maps both show it with everything still green.

I'll give the Google Maps view this, though; at least with all the leaves fallen, you can get an idea how many booths there are. In the green views, about all you can see are some of the open meadow areas.
