This is Not On Fire

Okay... so. Last week I was in Las Vegas for a database developer's conference. Overall, honestly, the Vegas experience struck me as fairly dull (more on that in another post). Last event of the conference was dinner hosted at the conference hotel's nightclub/pool; food was pretty good, pool setting was interesting... but the views out the window at the Strip were frankly more interesting.

Then I got home. And got mildly weirded out by the news. Remember the news reports about a fire at a Las Vegas hotel/casino?

It wasn't the pool we were at (see the row of windows at the base of the tower above; those were the 'cabanas' along the outside edge of the pool... each with their own little whirlpool plunge, which you can see on the left of the second photo). But the fire happened at the other pool on this level, just offscreen to the left in the photo above. And when the first reports came out, it sounded like it could have been our pool. Freaky. See the fake palm trees in the photos? Those are probably the same as the styrofoam trees that went up in flames in the fire.
