So, went down to Nashville to visit my friends there, maybe have a little fun, and really hoped to hit Lookout Mountain on this trip. Spending the 4th of July with them sounded like a winner, too; by now, all of the close friends and family I'd normally want to do holidays with have moved away. Alas, I didn't reckon with the weather; the 4th was a literal washout, and there was enough rain through the first part of the week (and enough side events the rest of the week) that we never did get to do much of anything more than a few miles from their place.

We did get to see two movies, though. Tomorrowland wasn't perfect... but they had me when the first scene of the movie 'proper' was at the 1964 World's Fair. :) I'm a sucker for World's Fairs in general and that one in particular, so that was an irresistible hook. I can see where some of the concerns about Randian libertarianism are coming from, but I didn't read them that way - nor did I think that was how they were intended to be read. (Frankly, I thought The Incredibles - also by Brad Bird - was more concerning in that respect.) Everyone who's seen it and knows me said this was my movie, and generally I'd have to say they were right. <sheepish look>

Inside Out was the real star, though. The first time I saw it, I was somewhat less than impressed; a large part of the center of the film was a travelogue through the mind, and it didn't feel terribly fresh or worthwhile to me the first time 'round. The second time, though? I'm not sure if it was the company, the way I'd been mulling over bits if it after it got stuck in my head, or what - but this time just about everything that didn't work before clicked for me, and it blew me away. You will go see this movie. :)
