Wilds of the Sky

Sigh... better late than never, I suppose? Pics from the eclipse a few weeks ago...

Visited a friend in Indianapolis for the solar show; he lives a couple miles south of the Speedway, which puts him right on one of the flight paths for the Indianapolis airport. So as the sky headed towards black, we got a plane flying into the encroaching darkness...

This was the part that really surprised me; I've seen close-up pics of the corona, but never realized that it would be visible to the naked eye like this! I can see why the ancients got rather worked-up about eclipses...

Lady Amaratsu, in all her hidden glory.

Solar Rig

The capture rig.

And to keep it slightly more to-date, pic of this weekend's aurora. Sadly, while I got the colors when I stopped to take a test pic with the phone, they were gone by the time I finished setting up the big camera.

I'm happy to see images later on when things are well over. It's pretty overwhelming trying to go through everybody's all at once just during and after the event. The plane is a really great element of these.
