The Lockheed Constellation was one of the prettiest airliners ever built, but it also spent its time in military service. This particular one had a bit of an unusual role...

This was an EC-121 Warning Star, one of the first airborne radar surveillance planes. EC-121s stayed in the air for up to 20 hours at a time, watching for unidentified aircraft with crews of 20-30 people.

Rest areas...

...and sleeping bunks.

Even civilian Connies had a separate radio operator/navigator, with their own station, but the EC-121's is a bit more complicated!

A beautiful old bird... I'm glad I got to see it!
