Castle Rock, Part I
Dec. 6th, 2020 11:39 pmBack out to west Kansas for another rock landmark...

This one's even more out-in-the-open-by-itself than Monument Rocks was. It was apparently used as a route landmark for the Overland Trail. (Though see my car for scale there...)

It's rather more impressive once you get up next to it!

The stub at the right used to be taller, but it collapsed in 2001.

There are a few bluffs in the area, so it isn't quite as all-by-itself as it looks. There's apparently some spots up there where you can park and take overhead pics of the rock, but it was getting towards sunset and I wanted to get to the Rock itself before the light fell. (You can already see where the clouds are gathering.)

The grey formation is supposed to look like an animal? I guess...
