Monument Rocks, Part 3
Sep. 13th, 2020 10:44 pmProbably the last set of posts, thought the full album is up at https://flic.kr/s/aHsmQC9FxQ .

Foreground smooth hill reminds me of a sleeping catloaf. :)

The second cluster is some distance away; I think this shot does a good job of getting that across.

The 'keyhole' is supposed to have some great sunset effects, but sadly a cloudbank on the horizon cut that off.

Almost looks like the prow of a ship.

Time to get in the car and go home. (Another 5 1/2 hours, yay! ^_- )

Date: 2020-09-15 12:21 am (UTC)Couple of suggestions:
Most of the pics I've seen online look like they were taken midday, and are somewhat washed out; late afternoon is when you probably get the best lighting, so that's when I planned on getting there.
The 'normal' route is taking I-70 to Oakley, then taking US 83 south; there's a road sign pointing out the dirt road to the monument. My GPS had me get off at WaKeeney and take US 283 to KS Hwy 4 to N Taos Road; probably shorter, but involves a lot more driving on dirt roads. The scenery is a little more interesting, though...

Date: 2020-09-14 08:13 pm (UTC)A couple of shots in this and previous entries make the formations look somewhat like Stonehenge.
I keep thinking I see snow, but that can't be what it is.
Hope the drive back was smooth.
