Taken with a mirror lens, which is the reason for the funky look to the out-of-focus areas; in this case, I think the look works rather well with the rough texture on the tree bark and the way the edge of the stump falls quickly out of focus. (Another characteristic of high-magnification mirror lenses: the depth-of-field, or the distance that stays in focus, is very thin.)
