Not Your Typical Elevator

...well, elevator pump room, anyway. :)

When Union Station was built 100 years ago, elevators worked by hydraulics. So they had to have a huge set of pumps to maintain the hydraulic pressure! (Read the sign, the story's interesting; I can't wait 'till they do the full story!)

The last time I visited this area, the room was dimly lit, with a button to put on a set of bright white lights. I suppose that's more of use to someone wanting to study the system... but this is more satisfying, I think. :)
