I prefer the second one, because I think putting the moon up in the corner gives it a bit of compositional tension, while centering it is kind of static. However, the first friend I showed both to preferred the first one. De gustibus...

I agree with you--I think the composition is stronger, both in the framing of the sky by the silhouetted tree branches and the moon being off to the corner. Lovely sky!
