I've got a couple of friends who are adult Lego enthusiasts, and of course I buy vicariously for my niece/nephew. :) So after looking... I do think they've gone overboard with some of the really specialized 'blocks' in the fancy sets, but the basic ones are still there and still work just fine.
It's too bad there isn't a Lego Store in LA; they have a 'build a brick' thing where you have a wall with containers filled with all different kinds of bricks. You pay a flat price for a cup, which gets you all the bricks you can cram into the cup. :)
