I have a friend of greater means & intestinal fortitude who has taken up flying as a hobby. I am very glad for him, but I personally cannot navigate even in 2-space so I'm better off staying on the ground and letting the experts handle things. *g*
Just to be clear about the context - this is part of an exhibit on a 1930's radio show called The Air Adventures of Jimmy Allen, and the Jimmy Allen Flying Club was one of the classic radio promotions - participation got you the kind of things shown in the exhibit - wings, photo books, etc. That's the era I was thinking of, more than flying. ^_-
I would love to learn to fly, but it's just not practical right now; in addition to the actual lessons, you need a certain number of flight hours to get your license, and more to keep it current. Plane rental is expensive, and ownership even more so; I figure I'd probably spend $6000+ to get a pilot's license, and I probably couldn't afford to use it more than a few times a year. :(
