Once in a while, you'll run across the term post-rock. It's referring to a certain kind of rough-cut limestone frequently used for fence posts - central Kansas is not exactly well-known for trees, so the homesteaders had to find substitutes where they could. This particular layer of limestone was known both for a regular structure that held together well; and a chemical composition that started off soft and easily shaped, but hardened after exposure to air.

I hope to get some good post-rock pics one of these days... but in the meantime, I'll settle for pics of some of the buildings made from rough-cut limestone. :) KU has a number of them; this is Bailey Hall, once the chemistry building, now used for several humanities and cultural study departments.
