All the Same?

One thing I noticed, when going through the Indy 500 museum, is how often trends show up - where Indy car design converges on a single 'look', which stays constant for several years. So for example here; this lineup covers three years of Indy 500 winners, and while the paint jobs are different, underneath that the body lines are very similar. Look at the hood, for example - all three have a very long hood curved over the engine in the center, contoured fairly tightly, then widening out when it reaches the bottom of the engine and has to take the frame into account. Or the way all of them curve out into a hump right behind the driver's seat.
