[ObMeme] Five Questions: Extreme Weather

1. Have you ever experienced a hurricane firsthand?
Nope!
Tornados... sort of. I've been driving on the road from Denver to Denver International Airport and seen them paralleling the highway. When I was living in Lawrence, I had one touch down about three blocks away, according to the post-storm report. And numerous calls a bit less close than that. But I've never heard the freight-train roar you're supposed to hear as one passes by, or felt the winds.
2. Have you ever experienced outside heat over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 degrees Celcius)?
Oh, yes - easily! When I was in high school in Kansas City, the summer of my sophomore year we had over-100 temperatures for every day in the month of July. I think the hottest, though, was when I went to a developer's conference in Phoenix, August 2005; temps hit over 117 degrees F.
3. When and where was the coldest temperature you have ever experienced?
Kansas City, again; back when I was in 4th grade, that winter the temps hit around -32 degrees F.
4. Is your household prepared for a possible power outage of two to seven days?
Depends on when it happened. Spring or fall, could probably cope somewhat well (with lots of eating out in restaurants); summer or winter, not a chance. Temperatures can just get too far outside comfortable limits.
5. Do you have a go bag?
Sort of, again. I do enough traveling that I leave a suitcase packed with my usual travel kit; all I have to do is throw in socks, underwear, a couple shirts and pants, and I can be ready to go in 5-10 minutes. That's good enough for a basic evacuation, but doesn't include emergency supplies.
A much bigger hurdle is the cats. x.x My home has enough hiding places that it can take 2-3 hours (or more!) to dig the cats out and get them in a carrier.
