Failure in motion

And today, an example photo I wish had come out better - trying to freeze the acrobat's motion mid-jump, and failing.

The problem here was the shutter speed. At this point, it was getting somewhat late into twilight, and while there was still plenty of light to see by, it wasn't enough for the camera; to get enough light, it had to hold the shutter open for a significant length of time. While this wasn't too bad for relatively stationary objects - people in the background are slightly fuzzy but relatively clear - the jump and especially the hoop were pretty blurred.
